| Just keep thinking bout those jazzy, steamin' streamin' summer nights swattin skeeters. Before I call it a night, "Here's to yuh, Beautiful Hares!" (said Silly Willy Wild Dove the Fox) After a long winter's night I decided to go visit my friend Beaver, Builder of Dreams To thank him for service in a good way By all means.
I hadn't walked this path for quite a long time Down to the pond by the lake Through the swamp grasses Up to my neck, up to my ass in mosquito-thronged prime. But this time I came prepared: All dolled up all over my skin A modern-day woodsman's A-1 primary lube so thin: An Enn dash di_meta methyl_toll-oo-ah-mide tube (N-di_meta-methyll_toluamide insect repellant tune)
A ride into chemical hell for sure But better than nothing on my hide! Now about those brambles, about those nettles and burrs.... Never mind! I was going at a clip with Little Bear as usual, Hoping Beaver was there. I kept wiping cobweb out of my hair. Oops! Spider's been busy.
I stopped and halted and thought. I don't NEED to do this. In the early morning stillness Beaver could silently hear my whine and prayer. And Spider, who worked night and day just to repair Her web with scrap and tear From two-legged intruders She encounters all the time. She didn't need more work, that's for sure So I decided to turn back Give her a rest, a snooze, a nap. Besides, I've got a lot on my plate. Back burner, too. In fact all four of them, My dream, My Spirit, My pet, My metaphysical schemes My laptop computerized thing.
Then I looked down at my feet. There was Slug and Snail, I nearly had stepped on them They made no squeak. A tiny slurp or a suck from Slug Wow! Crow was right. Dr. Jung was right The significance of All-life so Divine Delightful to have kept everything the was it was, By being more careful this time.
Ah! The Webs we weave, The veils we hide, The invisible threads That ensnare, enslave or enable us to fly past them Sometime they cut us off at the pass Or cause us to pause a bit and walk around them Walking around other's intentions. On a well-traveled path or the one less-traveled.
What matters most, Is that Everyone matters What they are presently doing, And whatever they've done.
Aho, Little Insects, your presence is large Your reminders are significant to us humans Who so often, simply barge through other's affairs. We bumble, we stumble, but we pick ourselves up. We're quite a motley crew, But we all reach our destinations in the end.
Its nice to know, however, When we've allowed others to continue their work undisturbed Without any interruption In the early summer morning dew In the early morning breeze.......
As I walked back home, I could hear Spider and Snail say thank you, if you please, For staying out of our space.
No rider racing madly down the path Looking for his horse. No two-legged stumbling down the old course. We all got a well-deseved break down by the lake! Undetained, uninterrupted, allowed to retain our own peace of mind ALLOWING OTHERS TO DO WHAT THEY DO ALL THE TIME!

Beaver, Spider, Snail and Slug in silence said to me,Thank you. You have pleased us very much, letting us make our own way Have yourself another lovely day!
Ah, Yes!. I certainly will. I'm having a thrill from my work, dreamin' 'bout a summer night's Swim down at The Pond Two-legged goin' down someone else's path. Willing to change his tune, Finally on the right course.
Finally slowing down to a normal paced walk Paying attention to the little details of Spider Slug Snail talk. Being in tune with the Small Forces of Nature Not just the grandiosities But perhaps in a more formal way On this beautiful Monday Morn in June Here's another toast to All My Relations: You're The Most! Little Insect People Down by The Pond!

p.s. Now about those mosquitoes.........I am not THAT fond of you. Perhaps we too can have a talk sometime And make our peace with each other As I have with Spider Snail Slug. They did, why can't you?
"We'll see," said Mosquito, "we'll see. But not today, not yet," he cried As he bit me through the pants on the thigh, as he bit me on the ankle Through the sweaty socks I just dried out. Oh well, one thing at a time, all in due time. I sure hope our conversation comes soon. Summer sun and moon Here in The Northwest, Is over before you know it.
"Mosquito," I said, as I scratched my thigh, "Move over bud, Move over to the other side of the pond real soon! Don't ask me why, just do it! I'll drag you over to Frog's waggin tongue if you don't real soon.
Aho! -end of silly poem- | |
