- The vast system of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution that covers the United States and Canada is essentially a single machine— by many measures, the world’s biggest machine. This single network is physically and administratively subdivided into three “interconnects”— the Eastern, covering the eastern two-thirds of the United States and Canada; the Western, encompassing most of the rest of the two countries; and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), covering most of Texas (Figure 1). Within each interconnect, power flows through ac lines, so all generators are tightly synchronized to the same 60-Hz cycle.
I think its time to renew our thoughts with info once again about the importance of understanding our connection to electricity, ie., THE GRID, how that in spite of 100's of companies, in spite of dependance on oil, gas, and coal, ALL OUR MANUFACTURING NEEDS (and transportation needs--actually much less important than manufacturing needs for a society in the industrial age to survive) ARE RESOLVED WITH ELECTRICITY COMING FROM ONE OF THESE THREE MAIN STATIONS/INTER_CONNECT COMPANIES THAT DISTRIBUTE BOTH CONSUMER AND REACTIVE (back-up) POWER . With the domino effect,
one way that would put an end to life as we know it (compression/fuel-injection motors will work for a few weeks at most hospitals/some manufacturing plants if electricity doesn't reach them, but after that?)
could occur naturally, ie., a shift in only one of the four continental plates that cover most of North America or a solar wind/comet/celestial event hitting just one of the connects.
Worth thinking about, huh? Yeah, you say, but what can we do about it? The answer is obvious: wind/hydrogen/solar alternatives (extraction is ABOVE-ground not underground---continental shift wouldn't effect wind/photo synthesis conversion to electricity stored in satellites hovering OVER the earth.
Second thought: How does one get the Enrons, the Ercots (energy reliability council of Texas, the GE Farbans/US "people"
to put that in place now?
(Before the known disasters could or probably will occur, possibly in our lifetime, according to many scientists.)
Then of course, its always the third thought used as the excuse for not doing anything about it: "It costs too much!"
'Course, there is a fourth thought. Money is now a ficticious non-material commodity whose existance is a non-reality become real (ie., exotic financial products worth whatever we (them in reality)decide they're worth)---WHEN WAS THE TRADING OF MONEY CALLED A PRODUCT? I THOUGHT IT WAS A SERVICE THAT MADE PRODUCTS WE NEED/USE/WANT TO REACH THEIR INTENDED DESTINATION (
us, as well as the manufacturers/distributors, etc., of the same MORE READILY. NOW ITS JUST ANOTHER MAN-MADE THING whose value is totally invented,
SO THEREFORE WE CAN MAKE THE CHANGES COST WHATEVER WE (them, in reality) WANT THEM TO COST and BUILD A NEW SYSTEM........so there! CANCEL THAT OLD EXCUSE, "IT'LL COST TOO MUCH" PEOPLE! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS FOR THE SEVEN OR EIGHT OF YOU THAT
DO CONTROL THE DISTRIBUTION OF ELECTICITY WORLD-WIDE AGREE TO CHARGE LESS FOR THE LABOR AND MATERIALS, 'CAUSE YOU OWN THEM THAR COMPANIES AS WELL! Bah humbug on all you crooks who still use that excuse! Mother Nature may just tell all of us to put it where the sun don't shine for us, real soon......HERE'S LOOKIN' UP YOUr ADDRESS, GE! :funny1:
