| Subject: Prudence, when is it in the way? Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:45 pm | |
| The young do not know enough to be prudent, and so they attempt the impossible, and achieve it, generation after generation. - Pearl S. Buck
This abandonment (letting go of) of old ideas and other previously established behavior limits, puts the finger on my own way of dealing with the "should I do this?" or, if I decide to do it, when do I say the work is finished? (while creating a painting/improvizing/performing) of an artist/writer/musician. Here is a quote that suggests we should let prudence off the hook and let 'er rip, especially when it comes to listening or agreeing with what we hear:
Just as the highest and the lowest notes (on the musical scale) are equally inaudible, so perhaps, is the greatest sense and the greatest nonsense equally unintelligible. - Alan Watts
One of the best quotes I have heard that depicts how important music is in our lives is:
Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. - Berthold Auerbach | |
