"A Man, Two Ducks and a Dog"
by TwoHawk Speaking for White Eagle

Ducks landed in the park nearby but didn't get their feet wet.
The grassy park where Little Bear and I walk each morning
Was freshened with dew, but there was no pond to pursue
No one was up yet. What was a duck, a dog and a man to do under these circumstances?
I was quite happy, not yet ready to attack the day.
I heard a quack. Two more ducks had strayed into the park.
There they were, back to back. Just sitting pretty.
I thought, oh how sad. Where was their flock? Their family?
Upon closer inspection, I saw that the female was "in a good way", as the natives here used to say, heyo hay.
"With Child" the howlies would bow their heads and pray.
Or ring her neck for a song and a prayer, thinking they had clocked it all wrong,
Maybe there's dinner in the air after all.
Maybe it was time to head North for Alaska. Its summer, bad timing to get knocked up though. Oh well,
I'm sure that whatever her intention was, it was her business. Who knows.
Maybe they wanted to stay in Oregon. You never know about those ducks!
You're out of luck, if you try to figure them out.
They just sit there pretty. They'll fit into every picture worth keeping
'Specially the mallards with those shiny green necks.
Feeling mighty proud, nonchalantly high.
Then, the male rose up
And began to fly.
Little Bear and I drew closer. A crow was trying to say
This is my property. Git!
The female duck got back at him. Quacked him on the head.
While the two of us just sat on the sidelines taking it all in.
Crow tried again but to no avail.
Bear tugged at the leash, wanted to play a major part in This Sunday Sit-in-the-Park,
Have some fun on the side.
But soon it was all over.
Crow went back to searching for worms.
Mallard and his mate waddled on.
They must have reorganized, realigned, got their bearings straight
Soon, they headed up into the sky. They knew where North was, alright
If they had stayed behind and tried to hide among the dogs and humans below to raise a family
They'd certainly get plucked! They knew what to do.
.
. .

How Duck's Medicine works goes something like this:

You sit looking pretty for a while, maybe softly singing,
Chanting something under your breath to calm your nerves if the going gets rough.
But leave things the way they are, say the ducks.
Don't try to change things. You're tough, out of luck.
Wait until the moment's right, then take wing because
The Flight Patterns of Great Spirit are pre-ordained, sometimes hard to maintain.
You can't escape them or fluff them up to make things easier.
Your feathers won't get ruffled
If you pay attention to the details of your own song. Take part in The Great Song of Life.
You'll fit in eventually, even if you think you've failed or caused strife among your brothers.
The flock will wait for you to catch up with them.
They're your family. For them, you can do no wrong.
"Aho! My dear sisters and brothers, Aho!
We duck people are also your partner in all this
Your Grandfathers and Mothers, messengers from The Sky:
"We love you dearly. Go now and be one with Great Spirit.
Play with us, and play with each other more often.
The heavy work you think you have to accomplish
Probably was done for you a long time ago.
Aho!

That was lovely , and I think your right, they pretty much give you permission to play... all day!
I always wanted to know Duck Medicine as I walk and swim [and sometimes race] with them in the pond on Hampstead Heath.

Ode to the pond

Entering the pool

Of liquid light

Of cool mothers womb

In my opening dance

With the sky

In the water

And the reeds that hide

Small beings that share

Their home with me

Flashing turquoise flying

From sacred space

And I gasp

Did you see that?

To friendly face

Acknowledging grace

As we slide away

In silent awe

Through cool caresses

Of lapping waves

In skies filled

With raucous cries

Of green comedians

From foreign shores

Escorting us to land …standing tall

much love to you, Celina Star Dancer

Thank you Be The Miracle,
The pond where I live is a sacred space for women in London to swim , hang out and commune with nature. It evokes deep feelings for us all here. I will post a photo ASAP.

much love Celina
