Man, dog in car survive plunge down remote cliff
Email this Story

Jun 16, 9:08 PM (ET)

LONDON (AP) - Authorities said a man and his dog in a car survived a 200-foot fall down a remote cliff in southern England early Sunday morning. Local police believe the man was thrown clear of his vehicle when it fell halfway down the cliff, near the town of Swanage.

They said the man was found barely conscious near the crumpled wreckage of his vehicle. The car had crashed onto a large ledge on the cliff face. Both the man's legs were broken.

The coast guards say the man's dog, a black New Zealand sheepdog named Zin Zan, could not be found. The dog later made its own way home and was discovered underneath the kitchen table.

MID I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this story. I am cracking up over it. LOL "Was found under the table!! HA HA HA HA

It reminds me of the time my Amber (220 lb English Mastiff) and I were going to take the trash out. When I opend the lid to the outside trash can a possum jumped out and hissed at me. I screamed and started running for the door. Well Ms. Amber took off running too! She head butted me out of the way and made it in the door before I could even reach it. She was sitting in there looking at me like "Thank God I made it - I am glad you did too."

MID, that is an amazing story!

ROFLMAO! That's funny, Spring. Weird you should mention possum. For the last two mornings, I've seen a baby possum outside my window, first thing in the morning. I wasn't going to look it up until I saw you mention it. Weird sync.

I think the poor dog wasa traumatized. He probably got bounced around quite a bit. Spring I'm beginning to believe Mastiff's are major woosies, or is just the ones you have? :funny1:

MID they don't call them the "Gentle Giants" for nothing. I think they would avoid a confrontation at all costs. That is why I love them so much. They are big, but lovable. People are leery of them because of their sheer size but they are more gentle than most small dogs. I know - I have to save Cayenne from the boogie men all the time. LOL :laugh4:

She's so adorable. Sometimes it seems the smaller the dog the badder they think they are. I've seen min-pin's and chihuahua's try to take on dogs 100 times their size.
