Bush wants 50 military bases, control of Iraqi airspace and legal immunity for all American soldiers and contractors 05 Jun 2008 A secret deal being negotiated in Baghdad would perpetuate the American military occupation of Iraq indefinitely, regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election in November. The terms of the impending deal, details of which have been leaked to The Independent, are likely to have an explosive political effect in Iraq. Iraqi officials fear that the accord, under which US troops would occupy permanent bases, conduct military operations, arrest Iraqis and enjoy immunity from Iraqi law, will destabilise Iraq's position in the Middle East and lay the basis for unending conflict in their country.

And I have read that only one of the bases already there has about 300,000 people living/working there (2/3 subcontractors/their families, and the mercants who serve them....all american). Thats like building a temporary town, quite easily made permanent, regardless of rules and regulations. It WILL take a lot of courage to leave the structures in place for the so-called "enemy" to use. Remember, we simply forced out wayin. We didn't NEED to make deals, we just bullied ourselves in there with threats to pull out our Kraft, Pepsi-cola and Cheerios(general mills) subsides (in the billions) Food for Oil fiasco that sent Colin Powell to the back of the bus......
